MAIN ACTIVITY OF UNIT:
Crowd control in emergency situations. Security for Shrine Activities Center (SAC) activities. Help line up parades. Be aware of disruptive situations before they get out of hand, control them, or call for aid from other proper authorities. Monitor medical emergencies. Check ID's of alcoholic beverage consumers at Shrine Activities Center functions. We have eight radios, which are licensed by frequency to the Provost Marshal Corp, that we use to communicate with other Provosts.
EVENT/FUNCTIONS:
Security for the Potentate's Ball and the Annual Soccer Classic. Crowd control for the Shrine Bowl Game. Provide radio communications for the Shrine Bowl Parade for the announcer. Provide security for the Daughters of the Nile initiations and installations, and security and crowd control at Sesostris Shrine Ceremonials and Circus. We serve Masonic-related events when requested. We are involved with other units for fund raising events as a unit and individually. We participate in Shrine Hospital screening clinics, dinners and off-premise clinics.
INVOLVEMENT OF FAMILY MEMBERS:
We involve our ladies and children in all Shrine special events, other units fund raiser dinners, and other social events.
MEETINGS:
The unit meets at 7:00 PM. on the third Wednesday of each month.
ANNUAL DUES:
Initiation fee is $10.00 and annual dues are a total of $11.00.
ADDITIONAL COSTS:
Uniform Costs: Shirt w/patches $44.00; black trousers, est. $40.00; black necktie, $2.00; green blazer, $100.00; black shoes or boots; white parade belt and buckle, $12.00; optional duty jacket, with patches, $110.00; badge, $45.00: which can be purchased at the marshal's convenience.
PREREQUISITES TO JOIN:
The unit operates for the security and safety of events and individuals whenever and wherever Shrine events occur. Therefore, members must possess a commitment to duty, be open minded, and able to think and access situations on their own and report to whomever is in charge of an event. A member must like to help people in need.
SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Any law enforcement, security, or military experience is desirable. Members must be able to follow instructions and make constructive inputs into the situation at hand. Members will receive a copy of the unit by-laws and performance standards.
OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION:
The Provost Marshal Corp is primarily a service organization. We do not announce when we operate but perform our services behind the scene. Our plan is generally to ascertain where our services are needed, and provide them without fanfare. Many times Shriners will not be aware that we have performed many of our services for them.
